Reasons why you must not buy AYANEO products

The product I purchased is Ayaneo Kun. Ref: https://project-ap.blogspot.com/2024/01/ayaneo-kun-unboxing.html

 There are quite a lot problems with the Ayaneo Kun, so I've been exchanging emails with Ayaneo, and I received such a funny response that I'm writing this post.

 Ayaneo Said "But we do complete testing on the product before sending it out, so there should be no problem with the products we send to customers."

Let’s take a look at their atrocities.

  1. Touchpad vibration bug, vibration never turns off. When I first received the device, this bug existed from the time I first opened it. (requires firmware update to fix.)
  2. D-pad issues (Once pressed, it does not come up again). Design flaw, This is because the controller PCB and the case are too close. More consideration should have been taken when manufacturing the mold. Ref: https://www.reddit.com/r/ayaneo/comments/18ld9lo/kun_dpad_issues/, Sol: https://project-ap.blogspot.com/2024/07/ayaneo-kun-dpad-how-to-perfect-repair.html
  3. Aux port Internal damage (Connector blocked by internal fastener, Ayaneo mocked me by email, telling me to change my earphones), The earphones still don't work properly, and Ayaneo has provided no help. Issue cause: The design flaw lies in the audio jack being too recessed due to the case, which is too thick around the jack. This creates a gap that prevents proper connection. To fix this, you need to remove the case, enlarge the hole for the audio jack, and remove the gap. Ref: https://project-ap.blogspot.com/2024/02/ayaneo-kun-review.html
  4. Missing Screws: There are three cooling fan fixing screws, but there are no male, female threads on the controller connection side. Ref: https://project-ap.blogspot.com/2024/04/ayaneo-kun-lte-moduleem7455.html
  5. Charger exploded: The USB-C letters on the included charger were worn away, so it looked like it was used. (In the end, it broke shortly after, so I received a new one from reseller.)
  6. After Service: In order to replace the part related to problem no 4, most of the parts on the controller had to be disassembled, and some parts had to be reused. However, the injection molding of the newly received part was slightly different from the existing one, causing the LB key to collide with the inside. I inquired about purchasing batteries at the beginning of purchasing the product, but it was ignored.
  7. Bypass charging issus (only works normally on Windows and charges after Windows is shutdown, Ayaneo tells nonsense by telling you to look for the power menu in BIOS. Ayaneo Kun's most recent Bios update was in April, and the ec update was in June... Answer It feels as if AI scratched the wiki content and answered it.
  8. Thermal pad: The thermal pad was not positioned properly. (See bottom photo.)
  9. Software: AMD Adrenaline drivers problems -> driver timeout, Only first and 23.11.1 version works well. (Tested all drivers released, afmf2 preview driver also driver timeout)
  10. 54W Fraud: Ayaneo AD "Superb heat dissipation, achieving 54W TDP performance release for the first time in handheld" https://www.ayaneo.com/product/AYANEO-KUN.html, The advertisement says 54W performance, but it cannot operate above 43W. (https://project-ap.blogspot.com/2024/06/amd-7840u780m-with-fsr-31-frame.html, The 43W benchmark is actually the result of running at a 54W setting on ayaspace 2.
  11. Heat dissipation: Most parts except the APU are not heat-dissipating, so the SSD suffers from throttling(exceeds 80c) Because of this, you can feel the little heat rushing to the handle of the body and after installing the LTE modem, the temperature of the modem exceeds 80c at peak. Since these parts are piled up under the microSD board(with usim slot), problems can occur in the lifespan of the product. Ref: https://project-ap.blogspot.com/2024/04/ayaneo-kun-ssd-add-heat-dissipation-work.html
  12. Sound: The built-in speaker is really trash. There is almost no bass, so some bass areas do not come out at all. If you are sensitive to sound, you will be very disappointed with the sound of this product. (Even the "fx sound" program cannot cover it.), I also inquired about the improvement kit for the sound, but they ignored it as well.
  13. Microsd card slot: Falling out If you pull it slightly. (Please refer to the video below.)
  14. Hub PD Charge:PD Charge via USB hub does not work properly after the EC update. (Charge Rate is 5W with USB Hub, As system usage increases, the charging amount also increases, a complete malfunction.).
  15. Spec: The manufacturer does not know the specifications of their device. This is the response I received when I inquired with Ayaneo about LTE specifications: "For the Ayaneo Kun's LTE m.2 port, if it fails to recognise a 5G modem (e.g. T99W175), this could be due to a number of reasons. On the one hand, it could be that the modem's hardware specification is incompatible with the Kun's LTE m.2 port; on the other hand, it could be that the modem is not supported by the Kun's BIOS or driver.As to whether Kun's m.2 LTE port supports PCI Express lanes, it is also necessary to refer to the specific hardware specifications and official documents. If Kun's m.2 port supports PCI Express channel and the modem also supports the channel, then theoretically they should be able to communicate normally. However, if one of the parties does not support PCI Express channel, or there are other compatibility issues, then it may lead to the situation of not being able to identify or use the Generally speaking, the m.2 interface is a universal interface standard that can support many types of devices, including SSD hard drives, wireless LAN cards, LTE modems, and so on. These devices can be connected to the motherboard via the m.2 interface for data transfer and communication functions. However, different m.2 interfaces may support different protocols and channels, such as PCI Express, USB, and so on."

I solved most of the problems myself, except for a few issues(5, 7, 9, 10, 12, 13). Delete the solved message because the problem recurs or varies depending on the device.

For a moment, I thought I had purchased a DIY product, not a finished product.(Please note that this product is not cheap. About 1,500,000 won was spent on this product(Ayaneo Kun). For comparison, the price of the Asus Ally X product is 1,190,000 won)

Uncertainty problem:

  1. WIFI signal: Very weak, The attached antenna says xyc antenna, f834(I'm not sure if it's a real.), but it was cut to fit the internal size, Even if a 5Ghz wifi router is right nearby, the signal cannot be received if the door is closed. The wifi speed is also different compared to the asus z13 I use. under the same conditions. There seems to be throttling by system heat. This part has large differences depending on the environment and has not been clearly tested(Because I don't have a frequency detector. But, I can activate AP mode and scan and measure WiFi channel with smartphone, but it is difficult to say that it is accurate.)

So... what did Ayaneo say? We Do Complete... What?

Pro:

  • Concept looks great

Cons:

  • Product is poor
  • Service is poor (Ayaneo's product cycle is very short, so it is very difficult to expect after-sales support.)
  • Quality check is bad

Conclusion: Don't waste your precious money on something that looks good but is worthless.

Ayaneo is unprofessional in both hardware manufacturing and service and is not interested in the damage you suffer. Ayaneo focus only on making and selling products with the cheapest parts possible and are not very interested in maintenance.

THIS IS WHY YOU MUST NOT BUY AYANEO PRODUCTS.

In fact, various problems related to defects, the period of normal use of this product was less than a month. If you read my blog, you'll see that I'm experiencing situations like this even though I mainly deal with IT tech. When an ordinary person buys this product and encounters a problem, it will be very difficult for them to solve the problem or get help.

This is becoming a very stressful and regrettable purchase.

Change all part for only missing fixing screws. (The newly received parts are slightly different and conflict with the LB button.)

Bypass, 80% limit set both aren't work after shutdown.

The USB-C letters on the included charger were worn away

Traces of the thermal pad being cut according to the shape of the heat sink and assembled regardless of whether it was in the wrong position.

============== WIFI signal ==============

IPEX cable[1], XYC F834[2]

[1] The part attached to the end of the ipex cable terminal is very small area.

[2] It appears to have been cut to fit the interior, so it shows to be a fixation pad for fixing the cable rather than an antenna.

============== Microsd card slot ==============

 This is the microSD card slot of Ayaneo Kun. I'm not sure if this is normal, but Ayaneo just responded by telling me to send the product to them without giving a proper explanation, so I decided it wasn't normal.  Since the microSD port's insertion hole is facing downward, there are concerns that it may fall out when used externally.

According to the explanation video, when you pull the card, it is fixed like No. 2, so it should not come off even if you pull it. As far as I know, this is the structure of a typical microSD card slot.

Kun's slot works even if you pull it out and put it back in, so it looks like the fixing part of No. 1 is different.

============== Bypass charging && After Service ==============

 The more I keep asking about bypass charging, the more often they give me AI answers or just ask me to send them products instead of providing actual help.
