Ayaneo Kun 5G Module(T99W175.43)

- If you do not have the knowledge or experience to solder or modify anything, please do not follow this. No one will be held responsible -

 First, this product does not work on devices other than the dedicated one. Since it requires hardware modification, it may break if you follow the instructions, or it may not work even if you follow the instructions.

Since this product basically works with PCIe, you need to force it to work with USB protocol. Ayaneo Kun's m.2 port for LTE only supports USB protocol.

Among the products with different model numbers, those marked as prototype are most likely not to work with the USB protocol.

However, this product is manufactured using a 7nm process and is also inexpensive, so it is superior to LTE modems in both cost-effectiveness and performance.

Modification requires contact connection and insulation, there are several ways to do this, but I think the method using "soldering" and "UV adhesive" is permanent and safe.

Hardware modifications:

  1. Front: Insulation of pin 3. ref: <F1>
  2. Back: Jump the contact points. ref: <F2>

--------------------------------------------------------------

You need to modify the red arrow part in the photo below.

 <F1>

Insulation of pin 3 (It's the second pin from the right on the front.)
The photo shows that the pin 3 have already been insulated with kapton tape.

<F2>
Use conductive adhesive or solder to jump them.
The solder should not be too thick when soldering, and if you are not sure your skills, finish the area with Kapton tape after soldering. (In case the lead part falls off.)

I aim to make modifications that are as restorable as possible.
Because soldering makes removal rather simple.
--------------------------------------------------------------

If you have done both, hardware modification is complete. The pictures below only explain about the pin number layout.

The pin numbers are numbered including the front and back. This is a reference photo to explain why pin 3 is the second on front.

After completing the above steps and installing it, Device recognized.

Software Installation:

  1. Driver: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds554516-sdx55-qualcomm-driver-for-windows-iot-10-64-bit-version-21h2-thinkedge-se30 download & install
  2. Select the driver circled in red in the image -> Generic Mobile Broadband Adapter -> Driver Update (The order may be different, Choice second driver if not work)
  3. Search Driver on my PC -> Select Driver List
  4. Modem -> Qualcomm -> "Qualcomm Snapdragon X55 5G Modem"
  5. Check Your Modem COM port number (Device properties -> Modem-> Port)
  6. Use terminal program(ex: putty) and put command "ATI" (You may not see any commands being typed into the terminal until now, but they are being typed.) If the command works correctly, the driver was installed correctly.
  7. Put "AT^CUSTOMER=0" (It's Number ZERO, Never get the numbers wrong)
  8. Shutdown(Recommand)
  9. Turn on after put usim (I skip the description of esim.)
  10. Check your cellular sim selected.

GPS:

It is not strictly necessary. but if you want install GPS Driver, Driver Update on GPS -> search on my pc -> all -> Qualcomm -> Qualcomm Snapdragon X55 5G Location GNSS

If the driver is not displayed, download and install it. https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=3mtvv

Other:

  • The remaining devices search on my pc -> all -> Qualcomm -> Qualcomm Snapdragon X55 5G Diagnostics (I'm not sure about this, but even modem driver also can install, but isn't work with AT command)
  • I will investigate further and update. If you change this CUSTOMER value arbitrarily, there is a risk of your PC rebooting periodically and your modem being bricked.
  • Useful at commands: "AT^DEBUG?", "AT^TEMP?"

LTE Speed Test:

I bought T99W175.43 from the aliexpress, It was sent via trackable regular mail and took a total of 6 days including the order date.

Include 4 anttenas and 1 T99W175.43

Other stores sell it littie cheaper but if you buy it there you may have problems, they pressured me not to buy it and to refuse to receive it. and even not included antennas.

The included antenna has a very long cable and the antenna part is also very large, making it difficult to use with the Kun. It is possible to re-cut and re-solder it, but I would recommend a more usable antenna. (check the below link - Short antenna)

The store linked below had no issues and shipped quickly after receiving my order.
